Some people get sleepy when they meditate. Some might even doze off.
Why so?
Most people are chronically sleep-deprived or overly tired. Your body knows what it needs and it will take it as soon as you slow down. Meditation mirrors the same brainwave sequence as when we go to sleep. And the body confuses it with much-needed rest.
If you can meditate sitting up and stay awake – your body will also recover this way, like a mini-nap.
If you can’t hold your head up, then let yourself fall asleep, take a 20-min nap instead. Allow your nervous system to rejuvenate however it’s asking to rejuvenate.
Meditation becomes easier with practice. Give your body time to learn how to rest and be still while awake, and meditation will soon become a pleasant break.
